New Years Resolutions: Building Identity-Based Habits

So you enthusiastically write New Year's resolutions every year, but you never do them. Well, let's break that cycle. Having your resolutions in writing where you can see them every day will motivate you to accomplish them. Don't write your resolutions on a random piece of paper and tuck them into a drawer somewhere. You'll forget about them...as you did every other year. -Faye (fayefilms on Youtube)

James Clear’s 3 step process to building identity-based habits:

Step 1: Name the performance or appearance goal you want to achieve. Is it to save money? Make more friends? Be a kinder person?

Step 2: In one sentence, describe the type of person who would achieve your goal. If you want to be healthy, ask yourself, “What would a healthy person be like” They would be disciplined, they would workout 3 times a week, they would eat less processed food and so on.

Bonus: Replace ‘they would’ with ‘I am’ statements at the beginning of the sentences you wrote in Step 2.

Step 3: List 5 small steps you can take to become this person.
